Kuyanchik Formation

Kuyanchik Fm

Period:
Devonian

Age Interval:
Late Eifelian-Frasnian, U5

Province:
Ustyurt-Sultanuzdag

Type Locality and Naming

Kuyanchik Uplift, Sultanuizdag Mountains, South Pre-Aral. S.S. Shul'ts (Jr.) in 1968 (441, p. 268).

Synonym: Kuyanchik Suite, Куянчикская св.

Lithology and Thickness

A. was distinguished in the volume of marbled limestones at the southwestern end of the Kuyanchik Uplift. A.A. Kulesh et al. (1974), K.A. Keshishyan et al. (1983) included tuffogenic formations in the suite.

As a result, the suite's section is characterized by the following sequence of rocks: at the bottom - andesite tuffs, tuff gravels, tuff sandstones, calcareous tuffs; at the top - marbled limestones. Thickness of the suite up to 100 m.

Lithology Pattern:
Limestone

Age

Based on the coral complex, the age of the suite can be considered in the interval from Eifelian to the lower part of Givetian, and according to brachiopods from late Emsian to Frasnian. Overall, based on the analysis of the distribution of brachiopod and coral species, the age of the suite is considered in the interval from late Eifelian of the Middle Devonian to the Frasnian epoch of the Late Devonian.
